Sacrament
A Sacrament is a formal religious act that is sacred as a sign or symbol of spiritual reality… instituted by Christ as a means of grace.

“An efficacious sign of grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, by which divine life is dispensed to us through the work of the Holy Spirit”.
Catechism of the Catholic Church

Grace is
The free and undeserved gift that God gives us… God shares his divine life and friendship with us.
Catechism of the Catholic Church

Renewal of Baptismal Promises (excerpt):

Do you reject Satan? ...... I do

And all his works? ...... I do

And his empty promises?..... I do

Do you believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth?..... I do…

The Sacrament of Baptism

Baptism welcomes us into a life of following Jesus Christ.  Baptism washes away our sins, incorporates us into the Church and makes us members of the Body of Christ.  Babies are baptized usually during their first year; however, all who are willing are welcome at any age.

“I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the holy Spirit.”
Mark 1:8

Infant Baptism

“Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
Mark 10:14

Children up to six years old are baptized under the condition that parents promise to raise the child in the Catholic faith as a Christian:
“to the earnest desire of Christian parents whose faith is vigorous and whose way of life gives clear promise that their child will develop in the faith of the church.”
Second Vatican Council

To Get Started

  • Contact us at least 2 months before desired infant baptism date to sign up for the next scheduled Baptism Information Night meeting.

  • Contact Rebecca Soto by calling the Parish Office 714-826-0760 or at rsoto@sticypress.org

  • When you sign up for the meeting, the Parish Office will give you a packet with all the requirements and information you’ll need – bring it with you to the Information Night meeting.

  • At the Baptism Information Night meeting, you will get your registration form to complete and get started.

  • It is also mandatory that parents and godparents attend a Baptismal Class (this is in addition to Information Night meeting).

How to Help

Helping candidates, parents and godparents to prepare for baptism is a great way to get involved in the Parish.  We can use your help in the following ministries:

  • Baptism class teachers
  • RCIA sponsors or class aides
  • Baptism ceremony ministers (greeters, water, towels)

To volunteer, contact Rebecca Soto 714-826-0760 or rsoto@sticypress.org.
