2008 PSA Campaign

As a parish community we journey together growing in our own relationship with Christ. Every year we are given the opportunity to bring others along with us on that same journey through our prayerful and financial support of the Pastoral Services Appeal. The Pastoral Services Appeal is a diocese-wide effort that supports the pastoral services of the Catholic Church in Orange County. It is an opportunity for all Catholics in our diocese to express unity with one another in carrying out our call, especially to help those who are vulnerable and in need. Diocesan pastoral programs funded through the Pastoral Services Appeal help parish programs in such areas as religious education, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, youth ministry, schools, married life, and many other worthy efforts. Throughout the diocese, the Pastoral Services Appeal helps fund ministry formation, Catholic schools, youth ministry, clergy development, prison ministry and more.

The Diocese needs to raise $5,596,000 this year through this appeal in order to provide funding for all of these programs. These funds are raised through the parishes. It has been determined that our fair share at St. Irenaeus is $156,000. I highly encourage you to join me in making a pledge of financial support to this very worthy campaign. Please take the time to discern how much you would like to pledge and how you are going to pay the pledge. You can pick up a pledge envelope from the parish office. Or, you can pledge online via the Online PSA Donations web page.

Our annual Pastoral Service Appeal pledge is part of our Christian stewardship of treasure. Our motivation for giving is gratitude for all the blessings we have received from God. We must ask ourselves, “What return shall we make to the Lord?” While we receive many requests for charitable gifts, our Church should be a priority consideration for our charitable support. I pray and hope that many of our parish households will take advantage of this opportunity and make a financial pledge to the Pastoral Services Appeal. If we raise more than the $156,000 it will come back to us in the form of a rebate which will be put in our building fund. We need to increase the building fund so we can seriously start planning to build a new parish center and improve our restroom facilities in the church, among other things.
