HELPING OTHER PEOPLE EVERYDAY
ST. IRENAEUS CHRISTIAN SERVICE
H.O.P.E. is a parish/community organization aiding those in need. It is run by volunteers. Our Chairperson is Fred Navarro and our Vice Chairperson is Mary Ellen Oves.
To receive assistance you must live within our parish boundaries and fall within income guidelines.
Our principle activities are:
U Twice monthly food distribution the first and third Saturday’s of each month from 9:00 am till 11:00 am. Donated clothing and small household items are also distributed at this time.
U Individual interviews of those seeking assistance conducted at parish office Monday through Friday from 9:00 am till 11:00 am by staff and volunteers.
U HOPE volunteer meetings held the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
U Christmas basket distribution of food and new toys the third Saturday of December.

The Dinner/Dance is $35.00 per person.

Assistance given:
Emergency food, twice monthly commodities, emergency shelter, bus tokens, utility assistance, gas vouchers, clothing and household items, ID and medical assistance.
We give out referrals for services we do not handle directly or to those not living within our parish boundaries. This includes job, housing and educational referrals.
Volunteers help with all of the above including the following:
Bagging of food for distribution
Picking up donated food items e.g., bread, produce, canned goods, paper products
Picking up purchased food from Food Distribution Center in Orange
Sorting food on parish grounds and also at distribution center in Costa Mesa
In the future:
We hope to have a parish based job developer/referral service in place by the fall of 1997.
